SoundCake Recipe & Ingredients
The origins of SoundCake go back to a hot summer day several years ago when guitarist Rob "Hef" Heflin coerced Mike "MickSlick" Carr (founder of Orange County's moderately successful 80's band "Incomplete Monday") to play lead guitar in his party band, "The Nitecappers." A few years later Hef and MickSlick found themselves in "The Lollypop Factory," a sort of glam band from Columbus, Ohio, whose members had been lured by the irresistable glitz and glamour of Riverside, Ca. Six months later, "The Lollypop Factory" - minus Hef & Mick Slick - headed back to Ohio, leaving our heroes to ponder their musical future.
For the next several years, Hef continued his pursuit of original band glory, playing in local soul and groove bands "Zumbuladelic," "Jive Turkey", "Television Child," and "Spooky Jones," while MickSlick played for a time in the alt-rock band "Before The Fall," then became a fill-in bass player for several local cover bands. But by the late 90's, both fellas had taken time off from music to pursue real careers.
Shortly after the chaos, tumult and aftermath of the Y2K disaster, Hef and MickSlick got the itch to go out and entertain, so they formed the cover band, The Boozhoundz. Drummers and lead guitarists came and went, but in mid-2004 Angelo "Acey The Rocker" Cunes (formerly of the band "Crackshot") showed up with his axe and tasty licks and hasn't been asked to leave yet... In mid-2007, drummer Rich "PoorRich" Smith left the band to put his time into anchoring OC blues band "The Chris Anderson Group," and since then SoundCake has gone through drummers like a lazy housewife goes through bon-bons.
SoundCake continues to make lasting impressions, playing wherever and whenever to support the band's various unmentionable habits, as well as their addiction to entertaining and getting people dancing. The band has been known to swing from 60s & 70s classics to cutting edge modern rock, to hip-hop, to cheesy arena rock, new wave, punk, southern rock, and of course, disco, dance, and party favorites.
Not just a bar & club band, SoundCake frequently entertains at wedding receptions, corporate and holiday events, fundraisers, and celebrations for all occasions. They make treks each year to Sonoma to perform for Sebastiani Winery's Annual Wine Club Dinner and to Central California for The Atascadero Fireman's Ball, are one of the house bands at the world famous Blue Beet in Newport Beach, make regular appearances at historic clubs such as The Lighthouse Cafe in Hermosa Beach, Perq's in Huntington Beach, and at rockin' neighborhood sports bars such as The Clubhouse Grille in Placentia and Big's Bar & Grill in Fullerton… Former band-mates and other talented friends often make surprise guest appearances, and everyone leaves a SoundCake show with a spring in their step and a silly smile on their face.
